Shoulder supports
Effectively relieve strain on the shoulder
The shoulder joint is one of the most mobile joints in the human body. The shoulder blade and the collarbone form the highly-flexible joint together with the head of the humerus. This enables us to perform delicate activities, such as writing, or to throw powerfully and lift heavy objects. The large radius of movement is possible because the joint is mainly held together by muscles, tendons and ligaments and is hardly protected at all by bony structures. This is why the shoulder is also particularly susceptible to fractures. A support immobilises the joint and supports healing.
For example, the shoulder joint can become stiff and painful after a fall or if it is overstrained. These symptoms severely restrict patients physically. In addition to a dislocated shoulder or a fracture, the "impingement syndrome", a narrowing of the space in the shoulder joint, is one of the most common causes of pain. In this condition, bony components rub against each other and squash the soft tissues such as tendons or bursae between them.
Shoulder supports are used whenever the shoulder needs to be rested or immobilised after an operation. They also promote recovery and stabilise and protect the joint in cases of frozen shoulder or after dislocating the shoulder joint.
